Iran Threatens Gulf Infrastructure Amid Rising Tensions

Iran has warned it could target critical infrastructure in the Gulf region if the United States follows through on threats against its energy facilities.

The warning comes after remarks by Donald J. Trump, who signaled possible strikes on Iran’s power infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened within 48 hours.

Tehran emphasized that Gulf countries are highly dependent on desalination, meaning any attacks on energy plants, water desalination facilities, or IT infrastructure could trigger severe disruptions in water and electricity supply across the region.

Iran also indicated that in such a scenario, it could move to close the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments—raising the risk of major disruptions to oil and gas flows worldwide.

As tensions escalate with ongoing missile exchanges and regional instability, global energy markets are already reacting, with increasing volatility and upward pressure on oil and gas prices.
